Senate President Supports Fundraising Campaign for Border Infrastructure Development

PHNOM PENH, August 27, 2024 — Senate President Hun Sen has expressed his support for the fundraising campaign aimed at developing infrastructure along Cambodia's northeastern border, particularly the border ring road. This initiative was launched by Prime Minister Hun Manet to enhance the region's connectivity and bolster national defense.

In a statement shared on his social media last night, Hun Sen acknowledged the active participation of Cambodian citizens in the fundraising effort. He urged all compatriots to contribute to the campaign, regardless of the size of their donation, and to observe whether those who have previously criticized the government for alleged territorial concessions are participating.

"Please, dear compatriots, take part in the campaign with contributions, whether small or large, and verify whether the accusers are involved," Hun Sen stated. "We want the Khmer nation to unite to protect our territory, especially if there are fears of losing it."

He further emphasized that the funds raised would demonstrate the true spirit of national solidarity in defense efforts across the country. "Through this fund, we will see the genuine commitment to national defense from all segments of our society. It will also reveal whether those who have accused us of ceding provinces to Vietnam are willing to join this effort. If they fear the loss of our territory, now is the time for them to contribute to building roads, schools, hospitals, water wells, and other essential infrastructure," Hun Sen added.

The campaign aims to not only improve the border region's infrastructure but also to foster a sense of unity and collective responsibility among Cambodians in safeguarding their national sovereignty.
